When I read the blurb for Firespell I was reminded of the House of Night but also of Hex Hall so I was interested to see how this book differed. Initially, it didn't seem to differ that much. Lily is sent to a boarding school, much against her wishes. Once there she carves a place for herself with Scout her snarky new best friend who shows her around. Almost immediately Scout starts disappearing and soon Lily follows her only to discover that Scout is not just a privileged girl at a posh school. She has a secret and Lily is drawn into her world out of concern for her new friend.

I'm not sure if it's my respect for the underdog but I love that Lily has no powers. It allows the reader to empathise with her amazement and confusion at the new world she finds herself thrown into. Lily's determination to find out what Scout is up to gets her involved in a strange world of magicians. I love the new breed of magicians that Neill has created; each one has a specialist power like the control of fire. Powers first show themselves at puberty but once the magician reaches adulthood they need souls to keep their powers from draining them. Scout's group fights against these magicians and try to stop innocent people being harmed.

I love this idea and it gave the book a real core of good against evil. The array of secondary characters are great too like the sexy-with-a-secret Jason or the hideous Mary Katherine. I especially like head teacher Mrs Foley who was suitably scary. The dialogue was quite snappy and sarcastic but not annoyingly so - I quite enjoyed it. The only bad thing I can say is that there wasn't enough book for me. I don't mean that it's too slim; it's a solid 246 pages. I wanted more of the characters, more information on the evil magicians, more on Jason and Lily. The book has a satisfying conclusion but I wish I'd read it when the second book was available so that I could go straight onto it to get a bit more depth on how Lily copes with all the changes that she's experienced. I enjoyed Firespell, I just want more of everything in the sequel.

Pe mine una m-au cucerit total copertile.A doua e preferata mea!Si actiunea cartii e interesanta.Foarte interesanta.Mi-as dori mult sa se publice si la noi,si sa se pastreze copertile originale!Defapt,ma duc pe blogul editurii Leda,daca ar putea fii posibil sa se publice si la noi,pentru ca stiu sigur ca are cativa ani in Romania,si ar fi o incantare!Plus ca vreau sa-i intreb si ce se intampla cu Strange Angels,pentru ca tot ziceau ca o sa apara in februarie,in martie,in aprilie,dar tot n-a aparut!Si cand am vazut lista cu publicatiile pe luna aprilie,mai si  iunie am cautat atent Strange Angels dar nu era pe lista...Asta inseamna ca cei de la Leda s-au razgandit?Oricum,ca sa revenim la subiect,ce parere aveti de seria Dark Elite(in traducere Elita Intunericului,cam asa)?Dar de coperti?Astept cat mai multe pareri!

Aventurile lui Sherlock Holmes/Memoriile lui Sherlock Holmes

Data trecuta v-am prezentat Fantoma de la Opera,iar acum va prezint un alt personaj clasic,si anume,Sherlock Holmes.Si sa nu uitam de Watson.Si acum imi vine in minte replica ''E elementar,Watson''.Am citit doar aceste 2 parti,insa le voi citi si pe celelalte 2.Holmes ma farmeca cu inteligenta lui.El gaseste raspunsul atunci cand pentru ceilalti e imposibil.Recunosc ca la ultimul mister din Memorii,am plans.Holmes si-a invins dusmanul,dar in acelasi timp s-a distrus si pe el.Insa,in Intoarcerea lui Sherlock Holmes,in prima povestire,ii explica lui Watson cum a supravietuit.Desi n-am citit Intoarcerea,am vazut primul episod din serial,asa ca va pot explica.Moriarty l-a pus pe Holmes sa scrie scrisoarea gasita de Watson,insa in lupta dintre el si profesor,profesorul a murit,insa el a reusit sa supravietuiasca.L-a vazut pe Watson,insa,impotriva vointei lui,nu s-a dus dupa el,deoarece ii vazu pe discipolii lui Moriarty,insa,noroc ca desi ei stiau ca Holmes era viu,nu-l gasisera,asa ca Sherlock a reusit sa scape.Timp de 3 ani a stat cu fratele lui,inchis in casa,ferindu-se de orice pericol,pentru ca stia ca discipolii profesorului il cauta,ca sa-si razbune mentorul.Peste 3 ani,Sherlock se intoarce,discret,iar prima data cand da ochii de Watson,era deghizat intr-un batranel.L-a vizitat in rolul batranelului,in cainetul sau,si cand au ramas singuri in birou,Holmes si-a aratat fata.Atunci ii povesti la Watson tot ce se intampla.Ca sa nu va plictisesc,trec la crima rezolvata.Discipolii profesorului il localizara pe Holmes,si chiar in seara atentatului,Sherlock,Watson si politistul se ascunsera in casa de vizavi,putand sa-i vada miscarile discipolilor.Holmes o rugase pe menajera lui sa puna un sac si o palarie,ca,la geam,dupa perdea,sa se vada de parca ar fi Holmes.Si cand discipolii trasera din arme,politia ii inconjura.Si asa Holmes a scapat de discipolii profesorului Moriarty.Stiu ca poate la unii o sa vi se para banal,dar nu bagati in seama,nu prea stiu eu sa povestesc,si de aceea uneori poate parea jalnic....Oricum,va recomand cu toata caldura Sherlock Holmes!Dupa cum poate va-ti dat seama,sunt fan!

Fantoma de la Opera

Tocmai am cumparat-o de la Adevarul,si pot spune ca m-a surprins placut!Inca n-am terminat-o,sunt cam pe la mijloc,si inca nu prea stiu multe despre fantoma...Doar ca il cheama Erik,traieste in subterane,o iubeste pe Christine(Ha-ha!Pe mine ma cheama Ioana-Cristiana,dar mai bine imi ziceti Nya sau Cri,atat)si nu este Ingerul Muzicii.Atat.Insa,curioasa din fire,am cautat pe net mici informatii,si am adaugat un lucru despre Erik,si anume ca are legatura cu Persanul.Cand am citit asta nu mi-am dat seama cine e Persanul,dar imi amintesc ca a aparut,rapid,la inceputul cartii,cand era povestirea de cum a murit Josh,sau cum il chema,ca nu mai tin minte.Raoul  imi place.Interesanta partea cu logodna timp de o luna...Defapt,tot a fost interesant.Am cazut de pe scaun de ras cand am citit ca din gura Carllotei a iesit un broscoi invizibil,sau mai bine zis,fantomatic.Sau cand Madam Girry povestea directorilor despre cum i-a soptit fantoma la un tip care era sotia cu sotia si prietenul la teatru,i-a soptit ca nevasta-sa si amicusau erau amanti,s-a intors,vazu ca se tin de mana si-si fac ochi dulci,il pocni pe prietenul sau,si cand a scapati si bietul om,fantoma i-a rupt picioru'.Dar am ramas traumatizata cand candelabrul a cazut si a omorat atatia oameni intr-o secunda...Acum ce vreti,am si eu sarmana de mine 13 ani,si era aproape miezul noptii,va dati seama ce vise frumoase am avut dupa aceea.Nu vreau sa va mai dezvalui si alte faze tari din carte,ca sa vedeti chiar voi,pentru ca e o carte care chiar merita citita.

Pretty Little Liars-Serialul

Dupa cum stiu unii,Pretty Little Liars a devenit serialul meu favorit!Ce va pot spune despre el?Ca va tine in suspans,cand crezi ca stii un lucru,intri in ceata,nimeni nu e ce pare a fii,si cel mai important:Fac pauze mari!Desi  se putea si mai rau,la State United of Tara e pauza de aprox. 10 luni...In 15 iunie va incepe sezonul 2,cu si mai multe intrigi!Dar pana atunci,va fac un mic rezumat al episoadelor sezonului 1 *Atentie,contin SPOILERE*:
Ep 1:Recunosc,acest episod te cam deruteaza la inceput,dar lucrurile isi reiau sensul normal...Prima scena este cea din hambarul lui Spencer,in care fetele fac un fel de ''Party Girls,No Disturb!''...Bine,blah,blah,fetele adorm,blah,blah,si acum vine partea interesanta!Se trezesc,vad ca Ally si Spencer nu-s acolo,vine Spencer,si zice ''Fetelor...Ally a disparut!''.Apoi dau niste amintiri din trecut,in care parca incepem sa avem parte de intrigi...Sau doar o greseala banala...Acum,pe scurt:Hanna fura niste ochelari de soare,Aria se intoarce in Rosewood,unde descopera ca Hanna si Mona sunt cele mai populare fete din scoala,nu mai sunt BFF's,singura din grup care mai vorbeste cu ea e Emily,draguta,si important,tipul cu care se saruta aseara in baia a unui bar e noul ei profesor de engleza!Cam banal,nu...
Stiti ceva,m-a cuprins lenea,plus ca eu deja am vazut toate ep,dar demult,ca nu-mi mai amintesc totul,si n-am chef sa revizuiesc,asa ca o sa va povestesc lucruri tari din alte ep,si rezumatul ultimului episod de sezon:
Tehnic,ep 10 trebuia sa fie ultimul,dar a prins bine la public,asa ca inafara ca s-a ales cu 22 ep,mai are parte si de sezonul 2,un posibil sezon 3,daca o sa aiba acelasi succes.In ep 10,fetele,inafara de Hanna,care e certata cu Mona,au fost invitate in Camp Mona.S-au dus doar pentru ca suspectau ca si A va fi acolo,asa ca ele cercetau inauntru,Hanna afara.Finalul a fost neuitat!Pe langa ca Hanna i-a descoperit pe Aria si Ezra,cum se sarutau(si A i-a vazut,scriind pe masina,ma rog,s-a dovedit ca n-a fost A,ci Noel)Hanna descoperise cine e A(l-a vazut pe Noel cand scria pe parbriz si credea ca el era)si alerga la fete,ca sa le spuna,dar chiar atunci,a lovit-o masina!N-a fost accident,a fost cineva care vroia sa-i inchida gura Hannei,pe veci...Asta-i finalul,insa in ep 11 Hanna e in spital,dar cand se trezeste,pe langa ca a avut cateva halucinatii cu Ally,s-a trezit ca A i-a scris pe ghips cand dormea!Mai-Mai-Mai....Mai tin minte multe lucruri,doar e serialul meu favorit,n-am cum sa le uit,dar acum,la 20:12,chiar n-am chef,nu stiu de ce...Asa ca sar la ep 22:
In acest ep,Mona ne arata ca e chiar malefica!Caleb i-a dat o scrisoare pentru Hanna,in care ii zicea cat o iubeste,iar ea a rupt-o in bucati!Lucas i-a vazut,insa Mona il roaga sa nu-i zica Hannei,deoarece e in avantajul lui, acum chiar are o sansa la Hanna.Ezra se pare ca nu este atat de sincer pe cat am fi crezut...La petrecerea profesorilor,organizata de parintii Ariei,a venit si ''Nu mai stiu cum o cheama'' fosta iubita a lui Ezra din facultate...Deci se despart...Hmm...Lucas totusi are suflet bun,deoarece se duce dupa Caleb si-l aduce din nou in Rosewood,pentru a rezolva problemele cu Hanna!Bravo Lucas!Finalul  ne lasa cu gura cascata,nu alta.Spencer si Ian,lupta in biserica,Ian incearca s-o omoare pe Spencer,insa sfarsese chiar el sa moara,dupa ce un misterios tip/a cu gluga il impinge.Fetele vin la timp,s-o ia pe Spencer de-acolo,si cheama politia.Politia le spune ca nu e nimeni acolo,Ian disparuse!Noel era in multimea de-afara!Se pare ca in sezonul 2 fetele noastre n-o sa fie prea bine vazute in oras...
